London day 3

This is actually from yesterday - our hotel in shepherds bush. Small but nice

Today started with Westminster Abbey. It somehow didn't occur to me that it might be closed on Sundays! Impressive as always, but I think Bee is getting saturated with old buildings. Still, hard not to be awed by the long list of recognizable names in the floor.

Next we took the train to Windsor Castle. We arrived at lunchtime (getting better at the time change; yesterday we ate at 2:30) and it was a bit cold and windy, so we grabbed a sandwich in the old station and Bee was excited to have REAL Earl Grey tea.

Then to the castle. The place is immaculate - building in perfect repair, grounds and gardens extremely well kept. I suppose there's no slacking for the Queen.

We were fortunate that the inside of the castle was open today - it's often closed due to hosting foreign dignitaries. Beautiful, ornate rooms, in my experience second only to Versailles. Sadly, no inside pics - Liz don't allow it.

The waterfall garden on the side of the keep was especially nice. Wisteria not yet in bloom :(

Then back to London. On arrival we ran afoul of the ticket guy at Waterloo station - apparently our transit passes aren't valid for longer trains. He kept saying "you can't do that" even though we had already done it. I played dumb tourist (which I was) and he helped us sort it out.

Finally, dinner at a ramen noodle place in Hammersmith. Apparently ramen is all the rage and this was our chance to try it. No ramen restaurants in New Hampshire!

Tomorrow is a lazy morning before the Eurostar to Paris at noon. London has been great, but very hectic, and we're both ready for the next thing.
